Carrie Stone has received the 2016 AJC Nursing Excellence Award. She was nominated by her colleagues for aiding a cyclist who had suffered a heart attack while riding.
Carrie, who was taking her dog to the vet, crossed three lanes of traffic to perform CPR and save the man's life.
Carrie is the house coordinator for Northside Hospital-Forsyth. In fact, she watched Northside grow from one medical surgical floor, 10 ICU beds, and nine emergency department beds to what it is today.
"I look back at how far we've come, and I'm amazed at all that we can now offer our community."
In high school, Carrie was fascinated by human anatomy and physiology. She wanted to pursue a career in the medical field and nursing provided her with enough time for her family - even while working every imaginable shift. Her parents have even joked that putting her through nursing school was the best money they ever spent!
