Sleep Disorders Center

Almost one-third of Americans have a sleep problem at some point in their lives.  Sleep disorders can have a profound impact on your quality of life – causing decreased job performance, high blood pressure and other cardiovascular conditions, memory loss, depression, and excessive sleepiness during the day.  Fortunately, sleep disorders can be treated effectively.

In 1985, the Northside Hospital Sleep Disorders Center became the first fully accredited sleep disorders center in Georgia by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.  Equipped with the latest technology in diagnosing and treating sleep/wake disorders for adolescents and adults, our highly specialized team of sleep professionals are dedicated to treating and identifying the causes of your problem.

Our highly specialized team of sleep professionals utilizes a full comprehensive process to support a patient through their entire treatment.

Evaluation: Our doctors will review your records and ask you to provide a sleep history and description of your symptoms.

Diagnosis: We may ask you to undergo a study in our sleep lab or at home to discover what is actually happening while you sleep.

Treatment: We offer a wide variety of personalized treatment plans for sleep disorders. Short-term treatment is available for insomnia problems while other sleep/wake disorders may require treatments ranging from medication to medical equipment to surgery.

Follow-up: We will monitor your progress with you and modify treatment as necessary.

Our patients are in good hands at our comprehensive, hospital-based sleep centers.  Our centers are staffed by physicians that are board certified in sleep medicine, in addition to being boarded in other specialties such as neurology and pulmonology.  For patient monitoring during sleep studies, we proudly feature only registered polysomnographic/sleep technologists (RPSGT), registered respiratory therapists (RRT), and certified respiratory therapists (CRT).  All patients are monitored on a 2:1 sleep technologist to patient ratio, or better, and all  clinical staff is certified in CPR.

Patients can consult with the physicians in an office setting and 4-6 quiet and comfortable bedrooms are available for day and nighttime evaluation.  Certain locations include renovated bedrooms with private bathroom and shower, flat screen satellite TV with DVD player, and breakfast in bed for overnight guests.  Portable in-home sleep studies and oral appliance therapy are also available.

For your convenience we have three locations in Atlanta, Cherokee and Forsyth.

Referrals

Physician referrals are usually not needed.  For more information, call Centralized Scheduling at (404) 845-8135 for a location near you.

Self Referral: During the initial office consultation, one of our board certified sleep specialists will review your medical records and ask you to provide a sleep history and a description of your problem.  To discover what issues are occurring during sleep, we may ask you to undergo sleep testing in our sleep center or at home.  Upon completion, our physician will review the results with you and discuss diagnosis and treatment options.  We offer a wide variety of treatment for sleep disorders and work with each patient to customize a solution that should work best for them.

Physician Referral
: Your physician may refer you to have a consultation by one of our sleep physicians in which your experience would be just like that of a self referral.  In other cases, your physician might directly refer you to us for a particular sleep study.  Afterwards, you would either follow up with your physician for the results and treatment or with one of our sleep specialists, depending on your physician’s orders.

You can call to schedule an appointment directly (most of the time a referral from a physician is not needed), or you may ask your doctor to refer you to the Sleep Center for an evaluation.
