Breast cancer affects all women. While it is known that 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer, every woman carries some risk of developing the disease.
As one of the nation's leading providers of breast care services, diagnosing and treating more breast cancer cases each year than any other program in the Southeast, the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute is committed to providing high quality breast cancer care and to making access to that care as convenient as possible.
Our strength is that we offer a multidisciplinary team of dedicated, specially trained professionals who work together every step of the way to provide individualized care. Northside’s Breast Care team offers a comprehensive scope of services, the latest technology, leading-edge clinical research and compassionate support.
Information is key to early detection. Northside’s Breast Care Program is committed to providing women the education and resources they need to stay healthy. Our Hereditary Cancer Program is available to patients interested in genetic counseling and testing due to strong personal or family histories of cancer, while our statewide network of comprehensive imaging centers and ScreenAtlanta Mobile Mammography make scheduling a mammogram convenient.
Every person involved with treating cancer is a member of a specially trained team of professionals, who work closely together to give you the best chance at a cure.
Ongoing support is crucial when you are facing cancer and afterward, too. Northside provides a full range of support resources to help along the journey.
Due to advancements and new technologies to diagnose and treat breast cancer, the overall number of breast cancer survivors has increased over the last two decades. Survival rates for breast cancer patients treated at the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute continue to exceed the national average.
Breast cancer treatment requires a team of specialists working together to provide the best care possible for the patient.
Treatment recommendations depend on various factors – cancer size and stage, prognostic indicators (like for example, whether the tumor has estrogen receptors), personal medical history and family history as well as other information. No breast cancer patient is like any other and Northside’s team acknowledges this – we treat each cancer individually and consider each patient’s unique life circumstances.
Weekly Multidisciplinary Breast Care Conference provide our breast cancer specialists a forum to discuss specific breast cancer cases and treatment recommendations. In this room full of breast experts, radiology and pathology images are reviewed, and oncologists sit together to talk through the best treatment options, including clinical trials, for individual patients. Patients whose cases are reviewed at the breast cancer conference get the benefit of not just one clinical perspective but more than a dozen expert opinions.
