Emergency Services

Northside’s Emergency Services Departments provide high-quality and compassionate care 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Some hospitals rotate staff with various specialists to work in the ER. Northside’s is staffed with doctors who are board-certified emergency physicians and PALS (pediatric advanced life support) certified nurses. Our emergency services team is committed to providing you the highest level of care in a safe and comfortable environment. Using the latest monitoring and imaging equipment, we provide stabilization and treatment of all conditions including PCI intervention for patients experiencing heart attacks.

Emergency Services are located at all three campuses (Atlanta, Forsyth and Cherokee). Each location offers private patient triage areas, comfortable treatment rooms and a clinical decision unit (CDU) for outpatient observation. Patients benefit from little to no waiting room wait times, typically seeing a physician within 20 minutes.

Many of our emergency service patients are treated and discharged, often in less than two hours. Your ER doctor may tell you to 'follow-up' with your regular doctor or you may need to be admitted to the hospital or surgery. Our friendly, compassionate staff communicates with your friends and family, as available on your progress, diagnosis and treatment.

HEALTH-EXPRESS/FAST TRACK

With this service, patients with less severe injuries (once triaged) are seen by a registered nurse, physician assistant or nurse practitioner, making the visit easier and faster.

Thinking Ahead Before an Emergency Happens

Understanding your options and having a plan of action before an emergency occurs is instrumental in reducing the amount of time it takes to get help.

  • Set your route.
How accessible is the hospital to major highways or roads?  Figure out multiple driving routes based on time of day, traffic congestion and possible roadwork, and plan ahead.  Don’t wait for an emergency to happen first.
  • Bring a complete list of home medications.
This list should include over the counter drugs, medication allergies and the names of your doctors can be helpful for our staff to have. Keep up-to-date medical information cards handy for each family member and bring them with you to the hospital. Download a family history card here.
  • What about insurance?
Call your health insurance company to find out which hospital emergency rooms are covered under your plan. Alert your insurance company when you are making a trip to an emergency room. Northside Hospital contracts with major insurance providers.
