Basic Computing Classes - Based on the Microsoft Office Suite, this program is taught in a classroom setting. The classroom, which is networked and Internet-capable, can accommodate up to six students. To facilitate learning, instructors use textbooks, as well as current software and technology. LCD projection enables the instructor to demonstrate all desktop functions, which creates a low-stress learning environment. Classes can be repeated as needed.
Life Matters - A unique group discussion session that meets twice daily to share experiences about general topics that range from recovery to work. The direction of the group is ultimately determined by the group itself. Confidential discussions take place and participants offer feedback as needed. Respect for others’ views and feelings is paramount. A lively group dynamic exists because an independent atmosphere is fostered and because the groups are made up of a diverse array of members. Facilitators do not provide clinical information; instead, they offer nuggets of life experience based on continual recovery. The healthy, non-judgmental environment fostered in Life Matters helps members to continue to share with others outside of the program.
The Job Club & Supported Employment Program - Focuses on vocational success. Programs are goal directed. Participants state their goals at the first meeting and during subsequent meetings, they hone and expand their goals. Common goals include: framing your job search as a full-time opportunity; actively seeking any job leads and sharing these leads with other members; believing that sustained, gainful employment is a reality for each member. Each member’s needs drive the progression toward employment growth and maintenance.
The Supported Employments Works Program - Through a collaborative agreement with Vocational Rehabilitation Services, this program assists participants in their work settings. The objective is to nurture improvement, not only of themselves, but also of the world in which they live. Job Development and Job Coaching are important components of he goal-directed Peer Project.
GED & other Tutorial Services - Facilitated by qualified members of The Peer Project. Participants who have perseverance and a desire to achieve are assisted in mastering their GED requirements, via face-to-face assistance. Volunteers provide tutorial resume assistance so that members can create professional and unique resumes that match their employment goals. Volunteers not only empower the participants, but also increase their own abilities to assist and contribute to peers in need. Contact a staff member to learn more about volunteering opportunities.
Support - Assistance and reinforcement will be provided to members of the program as long as needed. At the same time, the program values the inherent capacity of clients to grow. Hope is an essential ingredient in the rehabilitation process, and given the resources and opportunities, any client has the potential for improvement. Support is provided by participants who have become staff members and who offer the unique understanding and insight gained from accepting and managing their own mental illnesses.
