Image-guided technology

Northside Hospital was the first hospital in Georgia to acquire the O-arm® Imaging System, which allows surgeons to take real time, 3-D images of the patient during spine surgery to operate more precisely and without having to move the patient. Image-guided technology for total joint replacements provides surgeons with a 3-D view of the joint and precise data to help them more accurately align implants during replacement procedures, regardless of the size of the incision.

The MAKOplasty procedure at Northside Hospital-Forsyth has helped to improve the surgical outcomes of patients requiring hip and partial knee replacements. Through 3D models, motion capture and real-time virtual views of the patient’s anatomy, doctors are able to provide more accurate fittings and ensure that post-procedure pain is reduced significantly for patients. The technology allows surgeons to fine-tune the implant’s positioning and shape, making the most accurate joint replacements available and increasing patients’ mobility faster than ever before. 

Computer-assisted surgery

Computer-assisted surgery provides surgeons with more precise total hip and knee arthroplasty. The advanced technology automatically calculates the optimal size and positioning for the implant and enables surgeons to intra-operatively verify leg length, implant positioning and patient range of motion, ensuring that patients will have more natural feeling movement post-operatively and potentially increasing the lifespan of the implant.

Personalized knee replacement surgery

Orthopedic surgeons at Northside use TruMatch™ technology to offer customized knee replacement solutions for patients. A CT scan is used to create a 3-D model of your knee, from which personalized guides are created to help your surgeon achieve consistency in the placement and positioning of your knee implant. Patients benefit from improved stability and overall performance of the implant, as well as reduced risk for revision surgery following knee replacement.

Spine Center

Our comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach for acute and chronic spinal conditions offers many treatment options. We treat conditions ranging from minor strains to severe nerve pressure or injury, combining the expertise of many Atlanta spine specialists including orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, fellowship-trained anesthesia pain physicians, neuroradiologists and physical therapists, to provide superlative treatment and follow-up care.

Surgical techniques include:

  • Removal of a herniated disc using a microscope (microdiscectomy), as well as minimally invasive Metrx system
  • Removal of bone spurs compressing the spinal cord or nerves

Non-surgical treatment for tennis elbow

Northside Hospital offers a non-invasive alternative to the surgical treatment of tennis elbow and chronic heel pain. The procedure, called orthotripsy, uses a shock wave generator that delivers shock waves through the affected area, much like devices used to treat kidney stones. This technology causes healing in the soft tissues by sending pulses of pressure waves though the skin. No electricity is sent into the body.
