Physical Therapy

Our spine care centers staff includes physical therapists who examine and evaluate your back or neck and determine your treatment. It's their job to plan and implement physical therapy, rehab and reconditioning that will provide relief from pain and discomfort through physical means.

These may include:

  • Stretching
  • Stationary exercises
  • Cardiovascular exercise
  • Weight resistance
  • Massage
  • Hot and cold packs
  • Ultrasound
  • Electrical stimulation

Your physical therapist may evaluate you by checking your posture and measuring your muscle strength, range of motion, balance, coordination and other motor function in the context of your medical history.

Physical therapy is designed to speed the healing process and get patients back to their normal functioning. Any physical therapy, rehab and reconditioning program is essentially an education process. Your physical therapist will teach you what it takes to recover and resume your routine. You may not need more than a few sessions before you experience relief.

Your treatment may require exercises or procedures you do at home, plus work in the Spine Center.

Workers' Comp Insurance may provide benefits for physical therapy and rehab if you have an on-the-job injury or develop a work-related problem. For more information about the Physical Therapy program at Northside Hospital, click here.
