All three Northside Hospitals have received the Gold Seal of Approval™ accreditation from The Joint Commission. The hospital’s Behavioral Health and Home Care services also have received the Gold Seal of Approval.
Each of Northside’s hospitals also has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for health care quality, receiving select Disease-Specific Care Certifications.
All three hospitals have earned certification for Pneumonia and remain the only hospitals in Georgia to do so.
Northside Hospital-Atlanta and Northside Hospital-Forsyth have achieved certifications in Hip Replacement and Knee Replacement.
Northside Hospital-Atlanta also has received certification in High Risk Obstetrics and Pre-Term Labor.
All three Northside Hospitals have been awarded certifications as Advanced Primary Stroke Centers by The Joint Commission.
The Society for Cardiovascular Patient Care, one of the most prestigious professional organizations focused on cardiovascular care, granted all three hospitals accreditations as Chest Pain Centers.
Northside Hospital-Atlanta is designated a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology by AAGL and Surgical Review Corporation, recognizing the hospital’s unparalleled commitment and ability to consistently deliver safe, effective, evidence-based care.
The Bariatric Surgery Program at Northside Hospital-Atlanta was granted full approval by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.
In 2012, Northside Hospital-Atlanta and Northside Hospital-Forsyth received the UnitedHealth Premium specialty center designation in recognition of quality care in cardiac services and total joint replacement care. Northside Hospital-Atlanta also received recognition in surgical spine care.
Northside is accredited by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, a program, administered by the American College of Surgeons, which recognizes centers from around the country that have achieved the highest quality breast care programs.
Northside also is designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The highest level of accreditation that can be attained by a breast imaging center, this status recognizes centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program. Northside has additional ACR accreditations in Breast Ultrasound, CT, Mammography, MRI, Nuclear Medicine, PET, Stereotactic and Ultrasound.
Northside’s Diabetes Education Program has received continued recognition from the American Diabetes Association.
Each of Northside’s Laboratories is accredited by the Commission on Laboratory Accreditation of the College of American Pathologists.
All three of Northside’s Sleep Disorders Center are accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.
The Echocardiography Laboratories at Northside Hospital-Atlanta and the Northside/Alpharetta Medical Campus have received accreditation by the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission for providing quality patient care.
Northside Hospital-Atlanta has been voted Atlanta’s “Most Preferred Hospital for All Health Care Needs” by the National Research Corporation’s (NRC) annual Healthcare Market Guide every year since 1997.

Northside Hospital-Atlanta has been recognized four consecutive times (2009, 2010, 2011, 2012) by J.D. Power and Associates for providing “An Outstanding Maternity Experience.” Northside is the only hospital in Georgia to receive this award.
Northside Hospital-Forsyth was awarded a Patient Safety Excellence Award in 2011 from the HealthGrades organization. The hospital also received Quality Awards for excellence in Gastrointestinal Care (2011) and Stroke Care (2012).
Northside Hospital-Atlanta earned a HealthGrades Outstanding Patient Experience Award in 2011 and was previously recognized for excellence in Patient Safety (2009). The hospital also received Quality Awards for excellence in Prostatectomy and Spine Surgery in 2012.
For six years, all three Northside hospitals have scored in top tier of Georgia hospitals on the Georgia Hospital Association’s Honor Roll.
Northside Hospital-Atlanta and Northside Hospital-Forsyth were named two of the nation’s Top Performers on Key Quality Measures™ by The Joint Commission (TJC). The two hospitals were recognized by TJC for exemplary performance and achievement in using evidence-based clinical processes that are shown to improve care for heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care.
Northside Hospital-Atlanta, Northside Hospital-Cherokee and Northside Hospital-Forsyth each have achieved the American Heart Association’s (AHA) Mission: Lifeline® Receiving Center Quality Achievement Award, recognizing Northside’s commitment and success in implementing exceptional standards of care for heart attack patients.
The Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons granted its Outstanding Achievement Award to Northside’s Cancer Institute, as a result of surveys performed during 2010. Northside Hospital has maintained approval from the ACS since 1982.
In 2012, the National Marrow Donor Program, the federally funded organization that facilitates most unrelated bone marrow transplants in the United States, released data that indicate Northside Hospital’s BMT Program has, by far, the best survival rates for matched related and unrelated transplants of any program in the country. This is the third consecutive year that Northside has come out on top.
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services requires submission of data by each hospital in order to receive full payment for patients covered under the Medicare program. In 2009, the three Northside hospitals scored 100% in 14 of the 23 indicators placing the hospitals in the top 10% of hospitals in the nation. In the remaining indicators Northside scored in the high nineties.
HCAHPS (Hospital Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems) is a national, standardized survey of hospital patients about important aspects of their hospital experience. In 2011, each of Northside’s hospitals raised its score on this indicator.
