Each year, the Georgia Chapter of the March of Dimes recognizes nurses who demonstrate exceptional care, compassion and service for patients. Last year Kate Lee, chair of the Professional Practice Council at Northside, was awarded the Rising Star Award for her work as an outstanding ostomy nurse and her contagious "can-do attitude."
Kate's desire to become a nurse arose after seeing her grandmother diagnosed with colon cancer and her mother diagnosed with breast cancer. At just 13 years old, Kate found herself surrounded by hospitals, doctors and nurses. From that point, she knew she wanted to help people for a living.
"I feel proud when a patient tells me about attending their grandchild’s soccer game without worry or that they had a wonderful night out with their spouse. I am so proud when they say 'I can do this' and I can tell that they don’t feel ashamed or overwhelmed because of their ostomy," says Kate.
Kate, Northside appreciates you and your great attitude! Congratulations on winning a March of Dimes Rising Star Award – you’re our shining star.
