Olivia Matheson Sullivan is a nurse in the emergency department at our Atlanta campus. She’s already made strides in her short career, and we’re shining our employee spotlight on her this week.
Olivia says for her working in healthcare was written in the stars. Growing up, her father was a firefighter and paramedic. She and her brothers admired her father and thought he had “the coolest job.” It wasn’t until later that Olivia realized how difficult her father’s job was, dealing with families being ripped apart after losing patients.
Olivia shadowed her father for a few of his shifts, and instantly knew that caring for others would be her passion as well. When she graduated from nursing school, she even had the opportunity to work with her dad in an emergency department.
At Northside, she loves the brilliant moments of patient care. While dealing with tragedy is difficult, the patients who she connects with make it all worthwhile. For her, the positive experiences outweigh the negatives.
Olivia also loves mentoring new graduate nurses in the emergency department. “These nurses are so refreshing. They remind me where I started and the tremendous amount of knowledge that I hold now,” says Olivia.
