Debbie Devine has been a nurse for 29 years, and has worked at Northside since Debbie and her family moved to Atlanta in 1999. Debbie worked in Northside’s PICU and Special Care Nursery (SCN) for a total of 25 years before she joined the Lactation Department a few years ago.
“Our Department is committed to giving mothers that deliver here the resources to assist with all of their breastfeeding goals and needs.”
Within the Lactation Department, Debbie works on the SCN team, where she assists mothers who have delivered their babies early or mothers whose babies have been admitted to the SCN. The SCN team offers moms support with establishing a good milk supply and assisting with breastfeeding when the infants are stable enough to breastfeed. Debbie sees mothers for multiple appointments over the course of many months and continues to educate and support them throughout their breastfeeding journey.Debbie remarked on how appreciative the mothers the Lactation Department helps are; a few years ago, Debbie received a letter from a mother who had a bad experience breastfeeding her first baby. Debbie worked with the mom to develop a plan so her second experience would be more successful, and it was!—the new mom breastfed her baby for over a year and thanked Debbie and the team for their help and support.
