You've just been diagnosed with a condition requiring surgery. The traditional open surgery involved a large open incision which requires a long recovery and disruption of daily activities. The introduction of laparoscopic procedures provided a minimally invasive option using small incisions resulting in significant less pain, shorter hospital stays and fewer complications but is typically limited to very simple procedures. Robotic surgery is the next generation of minimally invasive laproscopic surgeries. By utilizing robotic technology surgeons are now able to offer a minimally invasive option for complex surgical procedures.
For most patients, robotic surgery offers numerous benefits over open surgery, including:
Many of the surgeons on staff at Northside are nationally and internationally recognized for their expertise in minimally invasive techniques and were pioneers in laparoscopic technique that lead the way to robotically assisted laparoscopic surgery. Combined with the skill and experience of the operating room nurses and surgical technologists, this level of expertise is critical in the success of utilizing this new technology. Northside Hospital continues to lead the way in robotic surgery, performing more robotic procedures than any other hospital in the Southeast. Only a handful of hospitals in the country have performed this minimally invasive technique. Northside Hospital-Atlanta was one of the first hospitals in Atlanta to obtain robotic technology, when it implemented its Advanced Robotic Surgery Program in 2005. Northside Hosptial-Cherokee followed in 2007, with Northside Hosptial-Forsyth in 2008.
The robotic surgical team at Northside Hospital has worked together for years, which brings a superior level of teamwork and skill to our program.
Northside hosted the state’s first Single-Site™ (single
incision) cholecystectomy (gallbladder removal)
Northside hosted the first successful delivery of healthy twins following a myomectomy in the United States.
Northside played host to the state's first robotic-assisted bladder removal and the
first robotic-assisted pyeloplasty (kidney reconstruction) and radical hysteretomy.
