Your family members, friends and caregivers also are part of the survivorship experience and should consider support as well.
As part of our comprehensive approach to cancer care, Northside Hospital focuses on healing the whole person, both physically and emotionally, because the fight against cancer doesn’t end with treatment. It’s a tough battle. Aside from the obvious physical and financial challenges, cancer survivors often fight against overwhelming feelings of loneliness, hopelessness and a loss of control – even when they are surrounded by loving and supportive family and friends.
Some days, it’s about the cancer... some days, it’s life itself that challenges you. Issues related to treatment, worries about recurrence of cancer and about burdening loved ones with your disease or how to help them fully understand your struggle – these can cause plenty of physical, emotional and mental strain.
What survivors need is ongoing support to help them heal all areas of their lives. Finding the right kind of support at the right time can be critical to your recovery from cancer. It also can teach you more about the cancer itself and help you make more educated decisions throughout the course of your illness.
When and if you are ready, talking about your cancer with others who understand can help you cope with the uncertainties ahead and provide tremendous benefit during your treatment and recovery. Northside Hospital provides a full range of support and survivorship resources that can help make recovery complete.

Network of Hope
When patients are facing cancer, they need a special kind of support that can only come from someone who knows what they are going through, someone who has been through it themselves. Network of Hope (NOH) connects patients with specially trained survivor volunteers, who have faced cancer and embraced life afterward. The program helps foster an open environment so patients and their families feel supported and not alone. For information, contact (404) 851-8707 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
