Batson-Cook Construction has ceremonially topped out Northside Hospital Forsyth’s Vertical Addition Project by honoring the on-site construction workers with lunch, giveaways, prizes and words of congratulations. The hospital, now standing at eight stories, has become the tallest building in Forsyth County.
“We are excited to be celebrating the topping out of what is now the tallest building in the county,” said David Glasscock, project manager for Batson-Cook. “These construction workers are dedicated to this project and skilled at their trades. We have reached this milestone because of their hard work, so today is all about them.”
Three floors totaling 77,975 square feet have been added to the existing five-story tower. The sixth floor will house mechanical equipment, and the seventh and eighth levels will each have 32 patient rooms. Six elevators will be extended to the eighth floor, and a seventh elevator will be added. Completion of the project, which will cost $30.4 million to construct, is anticipated in late September 2016.
This is Batson-Cook’s fourth vertical expansion at the hospital since 2002, when Northside purchased the facility, originally built by Batson-Cook in 1999, and renamed it Northside Hospital Forsyth. Batson-Cook has since completed multiple small and large projects on the campus, including vertical additions in 2003, 2010 and 2011.
Architect for the project is Howell Rusk Dodson of Atlanta. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing contractors are Batchelor & Kimball of Lithonia, Inglett & Stubbs of Mableton, and Art Plumbing of Smyrna, respectively.
In addition to Glasscock, the Batson-Cook team includes: Ken Flynn, project executive; Spencer Houston, Britt Shiver and Jonathan Deese, superintendents; Bill Eayre and Ryan Porche, assistant project managers; Chad Davis and Parhum Nankali, office engineers; Chris Reinhardt and Kyle Stovall, field engineers; Jay Shinall, safety coordinator; Chase Pinkerton, BIM manager; and Deb Baratka, estimator.
