Local Roswell resident and self-made business owner of Aladdin Travel Services, Gail Laddin, is a recent lung cancer survivor. In September of 2011, Gail collapsed on the floor of her office and her life was changed forever. After an emergency open heart surgery and the discovery of five aggressive tumors in her lungs, she spent the next four and a half years fighting ferociously through series of scans, chemotherapy and radiation treatments and hospital stays.
Laddin firmly believes that lung cancer is a different fight than it used to be. Her secret weapon? Lipstick. Laddin felt her best when she slicked on a fresh coat of lipstick and faced the day with confidence, even if she never left the house. She passionately emphasizes the importance of positivity and self-preservation throughout the treatment process, and encourages patients to take on the struggle one week at a time with an end goal in mind, no goal being too small.
In August of 2015 the doctors at Northside started Laddin on a new drug called Optivo, with which she experienced virtually no side effects. As of December 2015, Laddin is cancer free. She says she has her Northside doctors, the support of her family and coworkers and the power of prayer to thank for it. Her business is still running full-force in its 28th year and the self-proclaimed workaholic is back full time.
