Welcome to the Northside Hospital Gwinnett Family Medicine Residency Program! We are a group of clinicians, and educators, who strive to deliver outstanding care to patients within Gwinnett County and metro Atlanta while educating resident physicians to improve and promote the health care delivery system in the state of Georgia.
The principles of Family Medicine mandate health care that is comprehensive, continuous, and oriented toward the individual, their social support system, and community. The Family Physician is the point of entry for most patients requiring comprehensive health care. As the center of an inter-professional team of health care providers, we coordinate and advocate for the services of specialists such and non-physician providers of care such as physical therapists and counselors. Our residents work with the hundreds of specialists within Gwinnett County and our faculty promote family medicine by training resident physicians in finding better ways to deliver cost effective health services.
Our residents are exposed to all aspects of Family Medicine, with the goal being to provide them with the knowledge and skills to practice and deliver excellent health care. This residency also recognizes that personal maturity and self-awareness are extremely important. Upon graduation, our residents become physicians competent in comprehensive care of the full spectrum of ages and conditions that family physicians should excel at caring for, and have developed the skills required to be professionally and personally successful.
We have one residency training site and two ambulatory practices one of which is a sports medicine practice. We have a strong focus on osteopathic training for residents who are interested in developing their osteopathic skills in combination with the six core competencies as mandated by the ACGME. Our physicians also care for patients in the nursing home and in the inpatient setting at Gwinnett Medical Center-Duluth. We work with our high schools to provide pediatric sports physicals and partner with the community to improve population health.
