About Dr. Nidhip Patel

Program Director/OR Track Director

Dr. Patel was born and raised in Kalamazoo, Michigan. He joined the Northside Hospital Gwinnett family (then GMC) with the inception of the residency program in June 2015, and served as associate program director until transitioning to program director in August 2021. Dr. Patel is board-certified in Internal Medicine, Pediatrics and Obesity Medicine.

Dr. Patel did his undergraduate studies at the University of Michigan and medical school at Michigan State University’s College of Osteopathic Medicine, where he became interested in primary care and health disparities. He completed residency in internal medicine-pediatrics and the Jay Weiss Residency for Social Medicine and Global Health Equity at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Hospital. During that time, he helped create the Human Rights Clinic (HRC) of Miami -- a clinic dedicated to evaluating and documenting human rights abuses for seekers of asylum.

Dr. Patel served as chief resident in the med-peds program, and then served as director of the med-peds residency continuity clinic at Jackson Memorial Hospital prior to joining Northside Hospital Gwinnett. His interests include lifestyle/preventive medicine, social medicine and global health.

In 2021, Dr. Patel received the ACP Georgia "Early Career Physician Award" for outstanding achievement in the first 16 years post medical school graduation.
