10 ways to prevent injury

  1. Time off. Plan to have at least 1 day off per week from a particular sport to allow the body to recover.
  2. Wear the right gear. Wear proper equipment for certain activities in order to prevent any injuries.
  3. Examples such as mouth guards, padding, and helmets.
  4. Strengthen muscles. Conditioning exercises during practice strengthens muscles used in play
  5. Increase flexibility. Stretching exercises before and after workouts and exercises increases flexibility.
  6. Stretching should be added into a daily fitness plan.
  7. When using equipment, ask trainers on proper techniques. Failing to do so will result in injury.
  8. Take breaks. Rest periods during practice and workouts prevent injury and help the heart.
  9. Stop once there is any pain.
  10. Avoid heat injury by drinking plenty of fluids before, during and after exercise or play.
