Northside Hospital Cancer Institute offers more radiation oncology centers and innovative radiation therapy treatment units than any other hospital system in Georgia. Our technologically advanced linear accelerators with stereotactic ability allow us to treat small tumors with unprecedented precision, whether they are in the body or the brain. This technology, combined with our expert, board-certified physicians practicing at multiple locations across Georgia, and access to our network of over 55 cancer centers allows patients to receive the most advanced treatments close to home.
Radiation therapy is one of the most common cancer treatment options. It involves the use of special equipment to deliver high doses of radiation in order to destroy cancer cells. Like surgery, radiation therapy is a localized treatment and may be used externally or internally (also known as brachytherapy) to destroy cancer cells. It can be used alone, or in combination with other types of cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and surgery.
Radiation therapy can also be used to treat benign (non-cancerous) conditions. These treatments involve straightforward setup and delivery with minimal side effects, yet they provide excellent symptom relief.
Northside uses radiation therapy to treat the following:
Musculoskeletal
Hyperproliferative Disorders
Central nervous System (CNS)
Skin
