Northside Hospital Cancer Institute receives It's the Journey Grant

Posted on: March 31, 2017

Northside Hospital was awarded two separate $40,000 grants by It’s The Journey, Inc., producer of the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer. The $80,000 combined grants will go to fund breast diagnostic services to women both living within Atlanta and outside metro-Atlanta. These grants are two of 27 grants awarded by It’s The Journey this year to breast cancer programs across Georgia.

“We are privileged to facilitate the increased reach of these incredibly impactful breast health organizations,” said Kimberly Goff, Executive Director of It’s The Journey. “Their efforts extend across the entire state, reaching over 16,000 Georgians in need of breast health services in over 100 counties. We are proud that our grants remain focused on local needs and impact the lives of Georgians, providing crucial access to services ranging from clinical breast exams, screening mammograms, diagnostics, genetic counseling and testing, to direct financial assistance”

More cases of breast cancer are diagnosed and treated at the Northside Hospital Cancer Institute than at any other community hospital in the Southeast.  Early detection of breast cancer saves the lives of thousands of women each year.  However, medically underserved and uninsured women often lack access to care.

It’s The Journey, Inc. produces the Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer, an annual endurance walk that raises funds for breast health and breast cancer programs in Georgia.  In 14 years, It’s The Journey has raised $13 million and funded 298 breast cancer and breast health programs in the state. The 2017 Atlanta 2-Day Walk for Breast Cancer takes place November 11-12.  All of the money raised here stays here in Georgia. To register for the 2-Day Walk, visit
