Northside-Forsyth Breast Care Center Recognized with
Two National Accreditations
Northside Hospital is the regional leader in the fight against breast cancer, diagnosing and treating more cases of the disease than any other community hospital in the Southeast. Now, Northside’s Breast Care Program has been recognized nationally with two accreditations.
Northside has been awarded a three-year/full accreditation designation by the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC), a program administered by the American College of Surgeons. NAPBC recognizes centers, from around the country, which have achieved the highest quality breast care programs.
A breast center that achieves NAPBC accreditation has demonstrated a firm commitment to offer its patients every significant advantage in their battle against breast disease. Northside demonstrated compliance with standards established by the NAPBC for treating women who are diagnosed with the full spectrum of breast disease.
“The strength of Northside's Breast Care Program is that it not only offers women compassionate psychological support, it also provides a multi-disciplinary team of dedicated, specially trained professionals that combine their expertise to create a total approach to the diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer,” said Patti Owen, director of oncology services, Northside Hospital. “I am proud that their hard work, dedication and caring have been recognized.”
Northside also has been designated a Breast Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The highest level of accreditation that can be attained by a breast imaging center, this status recognizes centers that have earned accreditation in all of the College’s voluntary, breast-imaging accreditation programs and modules, in addition to the mandatory Mammography Accreditation Program.
The breast imaging services at Northside are fully accredited in mammography, breast ultrasound, ultrasound-guided breast biopsy and stereotactic breast biopsy. Reviewers thoroughly evaluated imaging quality, biopsy technique and educational credentials of technologists and physicians to assure that the hospital met or exceeded national standards.
“We have always prided ourselves on having the highest quality of breast radiology at our facilities,” said Lynn Baxter, M.D., director of breast imaging at Northside Hospital. “It’s gratifying to have official recognition of the high quality of our imaging services and the subspecialized expertise of our physicians and staff.”
The Breast Care Program at Northside Hospital is the largest single hospital program in the Southeast, diagnosing and treating more than 1,200 new cases of the disease each year. The hospital offers a complete range of services for breast patients including education, genetic counseling, imaging, radiation oncology, surgery, support, rehabilitation and more – covering every aspect of breast care.
