NORTHSIDE HOSPITAL EXPANDS WEB SITE TO BETTER INFORM PATIENTS
August, 2007 - Northside Hospital has expanded it's website with easily accessible in-depth health information.
The new feature is called A.D.A.M. and is a multi-faceted, fully-accredited health information program that includes content regarding: general health, surgeries and procedures, and pregnancy. The information comes from A.D.A.M., Inc.—an Atlanta-based company used by prestigious hospitals and medical universities throughout the United States and the National Library of Medicine.
In 2006 Northside launched it’s new Web site making navigation and viewing easier. In addition to this launch, several additional phases including the expansion of its medical content were planned. This second phase is near completion with the addition of the A.D.A.M. program.
“Northside’s goal with this project is to increase awareness in the marketplace of its expertise in areas other than just maternity services,” said Russ Davis, Director of Marketing and Public Relations at Northside Hospital. “We lead the state in many services that consumers are unaware of. The search for medical information by consumers on the Web has increased significantly over the past few years. Evolving our Web site into a source of in-depth medical content is an important service for our patients and community.”
A.D.A.M.’s general health section, Health Illustrated Encyclopedia, is the most comprehensive electronic health encyclopedia available today. It has more than 10,000 searchable pages and 4,000 illustrations and diagrams. Categories of information in the encyclopedia include: diseases and conditions, symptoms, injuries, surgeries, nutrition, poisons, tests and special topics. This section, as well as the others, will be continuously updated to give patients the most up-to-date information available.
Surgeries and Procedures is an area which includes approximately 140 presentations and more than 600 medical images. This provides patients with an explanation of common medical procedures, surgeries and tests in an easy to understand format. This section will be well-used at Northside, whose 34,500 surgeries per year is the most among all hosptials in Georgia. Specialists at Northside also rank in the upper 10% for daVinci robotic prostatectomy and 5% for GYN robotic procedures both nationally and worldwide as well as being the leading daVinci robotic hospital in Georgia.
The third segment of A.D.A.M., the Pregnancy Center, is a comprehensive collection of tools covering broad, commonly referenced pregnancy-related health subjects. These subjects cover information from before you get pregnant, a weekly pregnancy update during the nine month cycle, to baby's first few weeks. This section, again, will be very pertinent to Northside patients, as the hospital is ranked first in the nation among community hospitals in number of babies delivered, with more that 18,600 in 2006.
With this addition, Northside is looking to further inform its patients in many different areas and continue its reputation as Atlanta’s Most Preferred Hospital in Overall Healthcare Services, an award that has been given to the hospital by the National Research Corporation every year since 1997.
