Northside Hospital’s Marketing and Public Relations Department would like to assist you with news stories whenever possible. Please understand, however, that we have a duty and a legal obligation to protect our patients’ privacy. In general, we will not release any information without a patient’s consent.
Effective April 14, 2003, per the new guidelines of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), hospitals are only allowed to confirm whether or not a patient is in the hospital and to provide the patient's general condition (critical, serious, fair, good, undetermined) in cases when the reporter knows the patient's full name. No additional information will be given without prior patient consent and absolutely no information will be given in cases when the reporter does not already know a patient's name. More information is available online at www.hhs.gov/ocr/hipaa/.
Members of the media may park in the front circle of the hospital, the Emergency Department circle and the Women’s Center circle, if prior clearance has been provided by the Marketing and Public Relations Department.
No photography or videotaping may occur unless the hospital representative you are working with has, in writing, a patient’s consent to be photographed and/or videotaped.
