BEFORE BABY ARRIVES

 

Women's Center Tours: You are invited to familiarize yourself with the Labor and Delivery and Family Centered Care areas at Northside Hospital. Participants will visit the labor and birthing area, private rooms, nursery and receive information on what to do when the exciting day arrives. A virtual tour also is available. Register Now!

 

Childbirth Preparation:  Expectant families will receive a wealth of information about the birth process, pain management options and the role of your support partner. We keep our class sizes small to provide a private and open classroom environment and all our educators are nationally and internationally certified. 3 Options available: One Day, Weekend, Weeknight (4 sessions)

C-section Preparation: Have you been advised to anticipate a cesarean birth?  Come have your questions answered about topics such as anesthesia and pain management, pre-operative preparation, cesarean surgery, recovery and postpartum.  A brief tour of the hospital is included.

Childbirth Preparation Refresher: Review and refresh your knowledge and skills on topics such as breathing and relaxation techniques for labor and delivery, medication options and provide updates on issues that may have changed since you last gave birth. Register Now!

 

Vaginal Birth after Cesarean (VBAC):  Discuss your previous birth and C-section experience. What are the pros and cons for a VBAC versus a C-section?  See a DVD of a VBAC and ask your questions and have your concerns addressed. Register Now!

 

Childbirth for Multiples:  Learn the most current information and recommendations regarding multiple pregnancy.  Receive information on what to expect during the labor and delivery process, options for pain management, the role of your support partner as well as practical information and advice to meet the challenges ahead. Baby Essentials for Multiples: What are some key tips in caring for multiples? Practice bathing, diapering, feeding and the holding of newborn babies. Discover newborn characteristics and the meaning of infant cues as well as soothing techniques for fussy babies. Register Now!

 

Breastfeeding for Multiples: Lactation consultants will share the key strategies for breastfeeding multiples. Learn the options, benefits, skills for healthy and happy breastfed babies.  Hear recommendations for choosing a breast pump, overcoming feeding challenges and “tips” for successful partner involvement. Baby Essentials: This class prepares you as new parents to better understand your baby’s needs and behaviors.  Practice bathing and diapering, learn about infant cues and characteristics and soothing techniques.Register Now!

 

Breastfeeding Moms/Couples:  There are so many choices. Even if you are undecided about breastfeeding, this class will provide you with important information to help you decide. Class sizes are small and taught by an international, board-certified lactation consultant. You can select a breastfeeding class with women only, or couples where your support partner will learn their role. Register Now!

 

Breastfeeding and Working:  How do you continue to give your baby breast milk when it’s time to return to work? How do you use a breastpump, when do you use it and should you buy one? Receive information on how to maintain your milk supply, create a pumping, storing and feeding plan. Register Now!

 

Massage for Pregnancy and Labor:  Reduce stress, promote well-being and relaxation, and relieve discomfort for the pregnant and laboring mother.  Learn easy-to-do massage techniques for yourself and your partner. Register Now!

 

Becoming Parents:  As you are dreaming about your new baby, have you considered the type of parent you want to be?  What are your questions regarding this journey into parenthood? Come to this class and discuss the most common areas of concerns for new parents.  Topics include parental adjustments to change, concerns about becoming parents, building relationships and developing a supportive network. Baby and Me I: A fast-paced one hour sibling preparation class for big sisters and big brothers ages three to six.  Siblings learn what to expect, when to come to the hospital, what it is like to have a new baby in the home and learn important topics such as safety, holding and diapering a newborn baby. Baby and Me II: A more in-depth 1 ½ hour sibling preparation class for siblings seven to ten year olds. It includes age-appropriate discussions about the birth process, what to expect from a new baby and learning safe methods of holding and diapering a newborn baby.
