                 Advanced Center for Robotic Surgery

Northside Hospital is the first hospital in Georgiaone of just five hospitals in the world – to acquire the newest addition to the da Vinci robotic surgery product line – the da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System.  The new system is designed to provide additional clinical benefits to patients and operational efficiencies within the operating room (OR).  Northside performed its first surgeries with the technology on April 2. More on the da Vinci® Si™ Surgical System.

Northside provides state-of-the art surgical services. The surgical program performs more surgeries than any other hospital in Georgia. As such, Northside ranks in the top 10% for daVinci robotic prostectomy and the top 5% for gynecologic procedures both nationally and worldwide. Northside views robotic technology as having great potential for minimally invasive procedures in a growing range of specialties - having played host to the states's first robotic-assisted bladder removal and the first robotic-assisted Pyeloplasty (kidney reconstruction). We are on the forefront of robotic surgery for urology (prostate, kidney), gynecology (endometriosis, myomectomy, hysterectomy), GYN oncology and thoracic leading Georgia in robotic procedures performed. Robotic surgery is preformed at Northside Hospital - Atlanta, Forsyth and Cherokee.

Robotic surgery is a high priority at Northside because these minimally invasive procedures lead to faster recovery, less blood loss and better patient outcomes. It allows physicians greater range of motion and the ability to operate with increased precision and versatility. It also offers better visualization of the surgical area than traditional open or laparoscopic surgery due to the magnification and improved depth perception.

Better Vision, Greater Range of Motion

The daVinci Robotic System incorporates three-dimensional high-definition full color vision technology and small, computer enhanced robotic arms. While this technology does not replace the surgeons skills, it further enhances them allowing them to perform intricate minimally invasive surgical procedures while viewing the procedure through an eyepiece and endoscope. The robot's arms enable the surgeon to hold and manipulate the tools - bending back and forth, side to side, and rotating

in a full circle - providing greater range of motion than humanly possible.
