Diabetes

A chronic illness, diabetes requires patients to take an active role in controlling the disease. This includes the informed management of food intake, exercise and stress, as well as the proper administration of blood glucose testing and anti-diabetes medications.

 

Northside Hospital’s Comprehensive Outpatient Diabetes Program gives patients the information, support and care they need to manage their illness and live healthy, rewarding lives.

The Program, which is available on an individual basis or in small group settings, is designed for individuals with:

The Program is also designed for people who want information, motivation or intensive management, as well as those who want to prevent, detect and treat complications related to diabetes. For information about Gestational Diabetes, go to the Maternity section.

 

The program components include:

Initial Session – During this visit, you will learn the basics of diabetes self-management training, including blood-sugar testing and meal planning. Spouses or significant others are welcome to attend.

 

Follow-up – Your second visit will focus on problem solving, reducing diabetes complications, exercise, advance meal planning and adapting to living with a chronic disease.

 

Other Support – Free education seminars on diabetes-specific topics are available through Northside’s Community Education Programs. Ask your educator for details.

 

Program Locations – Classes are held at either our Diabetes Education Center at Meridian Mark (in Sandy Springs), the North Crescent Medical Building (in Alpharetta), or our Northside Hospital-Cherokee Education Center (in Canton).
