Northside partners to fight Alzheimer’s

Each June, communities nationwide recognize Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month, a time to raise awareness of a disease affecting millions and encourage proactive steps to support brain health. Northside Hospital is reinforcing that mission through its partnership with the Alzheimer’s Association, helping expand awareness, support research and uplift those impacted by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization dedicated to Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Its work includes community education, caregiver resources and advocacy efforts that influence public policy and funding priorities. The organization also funds research aimed at advancing prevention and treatment. A 24/7 helpline provides immediate support, while signature events such as the Walk to End Alzheimer’s bring communities together to raise awareness and critical funding.

Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month highlights the urgency of this work. More than 7 million Americans are living with Alzheimer’s, and nearly 13 million serve as caregivers. While there is no cure, research shows that healthy habits, early detection and awareness can help reduce risk and improve outcomes.

Northside’s partnership strengthens these efforts locally in Gwinnett and Atlanta. By supporting the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the health system helps generate funding while fostering community connection and engagement. Employees and community members are encouraged to participate and learn more about brain health.

“Northside’s continued support of the Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Gwinnett and Atlanta exemplifies what true community leadership looks like,” said Clay Jacobs, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association’s Georgia chapter. “Their partnership fuels not only this event, but also the collective momentum needed to drive awareness, care, and ultimately a future without Alzheimer’s.”
