The Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion at Northside Hospital Gwinnett has earned the Gold Level Cardio OB Award from the Georgia Perinatal Quality Collaborative for excellence in maternal cardiac care.
The award was presented during the annual Georgia Perinatal Quality Collaborative conference, held April 30-May 1 in Atlanta. It recognizes the hospital’s commitment to improving outcomes for pregnant and postpartum patients with cardiac conditions.
The recognition honors Northside Gwinnett’s Women’s Services division, including Labor & Delivery, the High-Risk Perinatal Unit and the Mother-Infant Unit, for advancing safe maternal care.
The Georgia Perinatal Quality Collaborative is a statewide initiative that aims to reduce severe maternal morbidity and mortality related to cardiac conditions during pregnancy and postpartum in Georgia by 20%. The collaborative’s Cardio OB program focuses on standardizing care during pregnancy and postpartum, improving early screening and diagnosis, strengthening care management and promoting patient involvement in care planning.
The Gwinnett Women’s Pavilion at Northside Hospital Gwinnett prioritizes rapid treatment of hypertension within the first hour of assessment, with provider and leadership monitoring of compliance. Northside Gwinnett partners with Optum on a postpartum blood pressure monitoring program that provides patients with blood pressure cuffs for home monitoring and follow-up support.
Additional efforts include cardiovascular screening during admission and readmission, with patients who screen positive for cardiovascular disease receiving further evaluation, including EKGs and laboratory testing. The hospital also supports ongoing maternal heart health through a dedicated Maternal Heart Health Clinic that coordinates postpartum referrals and patient education.
“Gwinnett Women’s Services leaders and staff demonstrate tremendous accountability in supporting high-quality maternal cardiac health care,” said Keri Boatright, BSN, RNC-NIC, director of Women’s Services at Northside Hospital Gwinnett. “We pursue ongoing cardiac-OB education and prioritize consistent standards of care in collaboration with campus cardiology."
"Receiving this award is very meaningful and highlights the importance of caring for mothers and their newborns who experience the complexities of cardiac OB complications," Boatright added. "We are grateful that our work is so significantly recognized by the Georgia Perinatal Quality Collaborative.”
