Cherokee Women's Health Specialists, a trusted provider of women's health care in Cherokee County, became part of the Northside Hospital network on Aug. 1.
Founded in 1993 by the late Dr. James Lee Cross, the practice was built on a simple mission: to provide exceptional, compassionate care for women close to home. Since then, Cherokee Women's Health Specialists has grown into one of the region's leading women's health practices, caring for generations of patients while remaining committed to personalized relationships, clinical excellence and innovation. Becoming part of Northside Hospital allows the practice to continue that legacy while expanding access to one of the nation's leading maternity programs and a comprehensive network of women's health services.
Cherokee Women's Health Specialists will continue serving patients at its Canton and Woodstock locations. Its multidisciplinary team includes OB/GYNs, two double-board-certified urogynecologists, certified nurse-midwives, physician associates, and a women's health nurse practitioner, offering comprehensive care that spans preventive wellness, pregnancy and childbirth, minimally invasive gynecologic surgery, menopause management, and specialized treatment for pelvic floor disorders.
"Cherokee Women's Health Specialists has built an outstanding reputation for delivering exceptional, compassionate care to women and families throughout Cherokee County," said Billy Hayes, CEO of Northside Cherokee. "Bringing this talented team into the Northside family strengthens our commitment to expanding access to nationally recognized women's health services while preserving the personalized care patients know and trust. Together, we are investing in the future of women's health and ensuring more patients can receive exceptional care close to home."
The practice's mission has always centered on partnering with women to help them make informed decisions about their health through every phase of life. That philosophy is reflected in its commitment to listening first, providing evidence-based care and developing treatment plans tailored to each patient's unique needs.
Joining the Northside Hospital network strengthens that mission by connecting patients to an even broader continuum of care. Patients will continue to see the providers they know and trust while benefiting from Northside's nationally recognized maternity program, advanced women's health services, and an extensive network of specialists across Metro Atlanta. Together, Cherokee Women's Health Specialists and Northside share a commitment to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care that supports women from adolescence through menopause and beyond.
“It has been a blessing and an honor to care for the women and families of this community for more than 30 years and, so often, to witness with them the miracle of new life,” said Dr. Michael Litrel, FACOG, FPMRS. “Throughout those years, Northside Hospital Cherokee has been beside us in caring for our patients, and in many ways, we have long felt like part of the Northside family. We are privileged to make that relationship official, proud of what we have built together and excited about what it means for our patients and the generations of women and families we will care for in the years ahead.”
Today, Cherokee Women's Health Specialists continues to provide comprehensive care for women throughout every stage of life. As part of Northside Hospital, the practice will build on its longstanding legacy while expanding access to one of Georgia's most comprehensive women's health networks.
