CBS News: Northside neurosurgeon removes brain tumor

CBS News Atlanta recently highlighted the story of 24-year-old Atlanta nurse Cameron Ferenchik, whose decision to seek care for swollen lymph nodes led to the unexpected discovery of a brain tumor. An MRI performed during the evaluation revealed a mass in the center of her brain that was blocking the flow of spinal fluid.

Ferenchik underwent surgery within days of receiving the diagnosis. Northside Hospital neurosurgeon Dr. Jim Robinson removed part of the tumor, which was ultimately determined to be noncancerous. Dr. Robinson told CBS News Atlanta that the tumor could have been life-threatening if it had gone undetected, underscoring the importance of paying attention to new or persistent symptoms and seeking medical evaluation promptly.

The story, published during Neurosurgery Awareness Month, also highlighted common brain tumor symptoms, including headaches, vision changes and speech difficulties. Ferenchik shared her experience to encourage others not to ignore changes in their health and to seek care early when something feels wrong.
