Every day across Northside Hospital, Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) deliver expert, compassionate care that makes a lasting difference for patients and families.
From emergency and surgical care to outpatient clinics and specialized hospital services, APPs are essential members of the care team. Their clinical expertise, collaboration and dedication help ensure patients receive the right care throughout their health care journey.
During National Advanced Practice Provider Week, Sept. 21-25, Northside Hospital recognizes the vital role APPs play in patient care and in strengthening health care teams. The week celebrates nurse practitioners, physician assistants/associates, certified registered nurse anesthetists, clinical nurse specialists, certified nurse-midwives and certified anesthesiologist assistants.
Across Northside, APPs evaluate patients, diagnose conditions, develop treatment plans, perform procedures, educate patients and families and coordinate care across a wide range of specialties.

We are grateful for their dedication and the invaluable impact they make on our entire healthcare community every day."
To recognize National APP Week, APPs from across Northside share what inspires them and what makes their work meaningful.
Jesse Martin, PA — Blood and Marrow Transplant, Northside Atlanta
Jesse Martin has served as a physician assistant with Northside Atlanta’s Blood and Marrow Transplant and Leukemia Program since 2013, caring for patients with complex blood cancers and those undergoing stem cell transplant and cellular therapies. Since becoming a lead APP in 2019, Martin has also helped lead a team of up to 32 APPs supporting the program’s 56-bed inpatient unit and outpatient infusion center.
“My role allows me the best of both worlds,” Martin said. “Clinically, I have the privilege of caring for and educating patients with complex blood cancers and their families in both inpatient and outpatient settings. As a leader, I also have the opportunity to train and work alongside our diverse APP team, sharing the experience I’ve gained and the wisdom passed along by my own mentors.”
Stephanie Stone, DNP, APRN, ACHPN — Palliative Care, Northside Cherokee
Stephanie Stone has served as a palliative care nurse practitioner at Northside for more than 12 years and helped establish palliative care programs at Northside Forsyth and Northside Cherokee. She cares for patients with chronic and life-limiting illnesses, managing symptoms and helping patients and families navigate conversations about illness, prognosis and goals of care.
“I find meaning in learning each patient’s journey and story,” Stone said. “Palliative care gives us a unique opportunity to understand the patient as a person and use that understanding to help guide them and their family through the hospital experience and beyond. Hearing a patient’s story is a privilege I never take for granted.”
Emily Vaughan, NP — Cardiology, Northside Forsyth
As a nurse practitioner in cardiology at Northside Forsyth, Emily Vaughan uses her clinical expertise to care for patients while helping them understand and manage their cardiovascular health.
“Working in the cardiac service line at Northside is a privilege,” Vaughan said. “I am grateful for the support and resources that allow me to care for members of our community. At Northside, I can use my skills and knowledge to make a meaningful impact on patient care.”
Bobby Stout, PA-C — Neurosurgery, Northside Gwinnett
Bobby Stout is the team lead physician assistant with Advanced Neurosurgery Associates at Northside Gwinnett and also supports Northside Hospital Heart Institute as needed. He has served patients at Gwinnett Medical Center and Northside Gwinnett since 2005.
Throughout his tenure, Stout has advanced APP leadership and collaboration, including helping establish the APP Committee at Gwinnett Medical Center, where he previously served as chair, and now contributing to the APP Advisory Committee at Northside Gwinnett.
“It has been an honor to serve this community since 2005 and to work alongside the team at Northside Gwinnett,” Stout said. “I’m proud to see how our campus has grown and expanded the services we can provide to our patients.”
More than a profession
For APPs across Northside, caring for patients goes beyond evaluating conditions and developing treatment plans. It is about building relationships, guiding patients and families through challenging moments and collaborating with colleagues to provide outstanding care.
As health care remains evolving, APPs help expand access to care and strengthen services across specialties and settings. National APP Week offers an opportunity to recognize those contributions and the expertise, leadership and compassion APPs bring to their work every day.
