Dr. Venkatesh Lakshminarayanan, system director of interventional pulmonary, shares essential insights about lung cancer — the most common cancer worldwide. More than 2 million cases are diagnosed annually. In the Unites States, nearly 250,000 people are affected each year. 

Dr. Lakshminarayanan discusses symptoms ranging from mild, like a persistent cough or wheezing, to severe (coughing up blood). He also explains the current screening guidelines, including low-dose CT scans for individuals aged 50 to 80 with a significant smoking history.

Dr. Lakshminarayanan is the director of the Interventional Pulmonary Program at Northside Hospital.
