Northside Hospital has never wavered from its commitment to provide quality health care where our patients need it most. Expansion and construction projects are underway or in design phase at all of the health system’s hospital campuses to address the current bed need and provide greater patient access to our services.
Northside Hospital Gwinnett expanded its inpatient capacity in December 2020 with 71 fully equipped modular units -- being used for inpatient care of all types, and is wrapping up renovation and expansion of two inpatient units for cardiovascular medical and surgical patients.
Construction also is underway on an expansion of the Emergency Department (ED), which will double in size of the current ED. The project includes renovation of the existing ED and adjacent imaging services. The first phase of the project will open this summer.
In August 2020, Northside Hospital Duluth opened 16 modular beds, followed by another six beds in October, and in January 2021 added 10 observation beds adjacent to the ED. In all, the hospital will increase its capacity by more than 40% this year.
Northside Hospital Cherokee and Northside Hospital Forsyth are each adding two more floors – floors nine and ten for both hospitals. The projects will add a combined 144 inpatient and observation beds for medical/surgical services to the Northside system.
Northside Hospital Cherokee also is expanding its ED with 22 new rooms and additional space for imaging. This project, as well as the vertical expansions at both Cherokee and Forsyth, will be completed by the end of 2021.
At Northside Hospital Atlanta, efforts are underway to renovate and convert portions of an existing medical/surgical unit into ten additional Intensive Care Unit (ICU) beds, coming online this summer. Nine existing ICU beds will be also refreshed during this time.
In addition, the hospital’s Women’s Center is undergoing a refurbishment of its 42 labor-delivery-recovery rooms; that work is expected to finish in May 2021.
In summer 2021, Northside will open its new 169,000-square-foot Northside/Midtown Outpatient Surgery Center at the Northside Medical Midtown building at 1110 West Peachtree St. in Midtown Atlanta. The project includes the relocation of three outpatient operating rooms, one procedure room for non-surgical endoscopy and associated support spaces.
Other major health projects are underway that will add even more health care quality, access and diversification across the Northside Hospital System.
