Before you breastfeed: 4 myths to leave behind

Breastfeeding does not have to hurt, and there are many common misconceptions about what breastfeeding should look and feel like.

In this video, Ally Prohaska, R.N., BSN, IBCLC, a Northside Hospital lactation expert debunks four common breastfeeding myths and shares what new and expecting moms should know. Learn why ongoing pain or nipple damage is not considered normal, how to tell if your baby is getting enough breast milk, why breastfed babies may feed more frequently than formula-fed babies and how long breastfeeding should continue.

At Northside Hospital, moms have access to breastfeeding support and resources, including the Mommy Connection group and lactation consultants who can provide guidance and support throughout their breastfeeding journey.

Every breastfeeding journey is different. Our goal is to help every mother feel supported and confident in the feeding decisions that are right for her and her baby.
