Visiting & Contacting Patients

Northside implements visitor restrictions due to COVID-19

Contact COVID-19 hotline

The State of Georgia has a new COVID-19 hotline. If you believe that you are experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 or have been exposed to the novel coronavirus, please contact your primary care doctor or an urgent care clinic. Please do not show up unannounced at an emergency room or health care facility. 844-442-2681

To help prevent the transmission and spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus, Northside Hospital is taking precautions to protect patients, family members, staff and the community. Effective immediately, entry to all five Northside hospitals and specialty facilities is temporarily restricted.

Visitors will not be accepted at Northside Gwinnett Extended Care Center, Northside Gwinnett Joan Glancy, and all Northside Hospital Cancer Institute outpatient oncology practices and infusion centers.

Visitor restrictions for Northside Hospital Atlanta, Northside Hospital Cherokee, Northside Hospital Duluth, Northside Hospital Forsyth and Northside Hospital Gwinnett are as follows:

  • We are updating our visitor guidelines to include a suspension of visitors to inpatient units, outpatient facilities, and infusion centers. Women’s Services, Surgical and procedural areas will continue to permit one support person/care partner per patient. Extenuating circumstances will be reviewed on a case by case basis.

  • Labor & Delivery patients are allowed one support person of the mother's choosing for the duration of the hospital stay. No substitutions allowed.

  • Effective April 24, 2020, the Northside Hospital Special Care Nurseries will permit one primary caregiver to visit their infant in the NICU for one hour each day, and this may be extended to four hours for discharge training. All necessary precautions will be taken to limit exposure of the infant, including the screening of caregivers upon entry to the facility and wearing of mask and gloves. Northside staff will continue to provide resources – including tablets for live streaming and emailed photographs – to enable visitors to connect with the babies.

  • Patients undergoing outpatient surgery or procedures are allowed one visitor in the waiting room.

  • Minor patients (under 18) are allowed two visitors.

  • No visitors will be allowed for a known COVID-19 patient or a patient under investigation for COVID-19.

  • Approved visitors will be screened for illness prior to entering the facility and will not be allowed to visit if they are experiencing an illness or have recently had known exposure to communicable diseases.

  • Northside Hospital reserves the right to limit visitors beyond what is set forth in this guideline if needed.

During this time, we encourage family members and friends to use alternative means to interact with loved ones via phone and video calls (FaceTime, Skype, etc.), social media and other tools. Scroll down for information about how to call or send mail to a patient at a Northside hospital.

Infection control and prevention measures are always a priority at Northside Hospital. Our Infection Control specialists and clinical leadership have a coordinated and comprehensive plan to handle infectious disease patients, adhering to the CDC’s recommendations and guidelines for prevention, surveillance and treatment.
