Northside Hospital Heart Institute’s structural and valvular heart program is a collaborative effort between our interventional cardiologists, electrophysiologists and cardiothoracic surgeons. Our program offers a range of innovative treatments for different forms of heart valve disease. The structural clinic provides specialty care to those patients with conditions that affect the flow of blood in the heart or are at risk for stroke. We offer minimally invasive treatment options as well as hybrid approaches for complex cases.
Left Atrial Appendage Occlusion Device (LAAO) - Watchman & Amulet:
an innovative device that lowers the risk of stroke for patients with nonvalvular AFib. This procedure is a permanent implant that allows patients to stop long-term
use of blood thinners used to treat AFib.
MitraClip/Transcatheter Mitral Valve Interventions (TMVI):
for patients who have been diagnosed with a leaky mitral valve, causing severe mitral regurgitation. Patients who cannot tolerate traditional surgery may be candidates for
MitraClip, in which the mitral valve is accessed with a catheter guided through a vein in the leg to reach the heart.
Patent Foramen Ovale (PFO)/Atrial Septal Defect (ASD) Closures:
for patients with congenital heart defects, or holes in the heart, can undergo a minimally invasive procedure with a closure device that deployed via catheter.
Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR):
is a procedure for select patients with severe symptomatic aortic stenosis who are not candidates for traditional open chest surgery or are high-risk operable candidates.
