Postpartum Pelvic Health

Pregnancy and childbirth can cause many changes in the body. Whether you have recently given birth or had a different outcome, you may have questions or concerns about your belly and pelvic floor muscles as your body recovers.

The pelvic floor muscles act like a hammock at the bottom of the pelvis, stretching from the pubic bone to the tailbone. These muscles help control your bladder and bowels, support your pelvic organs, and play a role in sexual function. You may notice changes like trouble controlling your bladder or bowels, pelvic pain, a heavy feeling in the vagina, or weaker pelvic muscles. Some people also have trouble using their core muscles or notice that their belly muscles feel separated.

If you have experienced any of these symptoms, know that help is available, and treatment can support your recovery.

Northside Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation has a team of specially trained pelvic floor physical therapists to help relieve your symptoms and improve your quality of life. We provide one-on-one treatment sessions that are individualized to you and your goals. Click here to learn more:
