Families with babies in NICU to benefit from new partnership between Northside and March of Dimes

Northside Hospital is the newest March of Dimes NICU Family Support® virtual program in Atlanta. March of Dimes partners with local hospitals to provide accurate, trusted, and meaningful information to support all families experiencing a newborn intensive care unit (NICU) stay.

“We are excited to strengthen the partnership of Northside Hospital with the March of Dimes," said Kelly Inoue, MS, RNC-NIC, NE-BC, operations manager, Northside Hospital Atlanta Special Care Nursery. "The NICU Family Support Program will provide families additional support to navigate a stressful time and further prepare parents to care for their babies at home."

"We love being able to offer the My NICU Baby app as a tool to provide parents with information and empower them to partner with us in their child’s care," Inoue added.

Most parents expect to take their newborn baby home from the hospital a few days after the delivery. Very few ever imagine their baby being admitted to a NICU. Seeing their newborn child dependent on medical equipment, undergoing procedures and, in some cases, fighting for their life can be frightening, overwhelming and traumatic to new parents.

March of Dimes created the NICU Family Support program to provide information and support to families throughout their NICU journey and to empower them to be active caregivers while their baby is in the NICU. The program educates families, educates healthcare staff and improves the NICU experience, reaching more than 50,000 families each year since 2001.

"We are thrilled to partner with Northside Hospital to provide these important resources and support families in the NICU together," said Heather Reimer, March of Dimes Senior Director of NICU Family Support.

Northside is well known and respected for its maternity services, which include Level-III neonatal intensive care units (NICU) at each of its Women’s Centers. Nearly 25,000 babies were born at Northside hospitals in 2020. For more than a generation, Northside Hospital in Atlanta has been the undisputed leader in maternity and newborn services, delivering more babies than any other single hospital in the United States.
